The parallels of these two moments kill me
In Thor, not being able to lift Mjolnir was the worst kind of punishment. Everything he knew and felt about himself was ripped apart, when he was no longer worthy. He wanted nothing more than to be able to life it, to be worthy again, so that he could go home. Back to his family, back to his life. But he isn’t worthy, he was arrogant, and foolish And this is when he realises the severity of his banishment, in this moment. What it means to be powerless.
Cut to the Avengers. The brother, who he grew up with, who he loves dearly, is raging war on the one place he swore to protect, the one place he loves possibly as much as he love Asgard, and to top it off, just tried to kill him. But none of that matters to Thor. Loki will always be his brother, regardless of his parentage or what wrongs he does. In this moment Thor knows he is worthy. He could have called Mjolnir to him, instead of walking over. But he knows that the sooner he lifts Mjolnir, the sooner he has to go and try to stop his brother. By any means necessary. How can the possibility, of him having to kill his brothers, be something that makes him worthy or Mjolnir’s power?
